There is plenty to do in Gieten and the surrounding countryside. The extensive wooded environment, including the `Zwanemeer` woods, an area with sand drifts and many interesting features, is much loved by walkers. The well-known recreation lake, ``t Nije Hemelriek` (`new kingdom of heaven`) means fun for the whole family.
