From the harbour, you can watch the whales frolicking at close range; Hermanus is the perfect place for whale watching, as well as for diving, with sharks, and other activities. The area is ideal for bird watching and features beautiful natural environments which include various flora and fauna. There are also several golf courses within close proximity to the hotel. By Car: From Cape Town: - Head for Somerset West/Caledon on the N2. - Go over Sir Lowry’s Pass, pass Elgin Apple orchards and Peregrine and Houwhoek Farm Stalls. - Cross the Houwhoek Pass and take the R43 exit to Hermanus. - Follow the main road through the town centre and we are on your right next to the local police station. - Alternatively, turn right off the N2 after Somerset West on the R44 to Gordon`s Bay. - Meander around this beautiful stretch of coastline passing through Rooiels, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond. - Turn right at the junction with the R43 to Hermanus. - Then follow the instructions above. From George, Knysna and the Garden Route: - Head for Cape Town on the N2. - Turn left 10 km after Riviersonderend, the river without end, on the R326 towards Stanford/Hermanus. - Drive through wheat fields and sheep farms and turn right at Stanford on the R43 towards Hermanus - Then follow the instructions above. Hermanus lies in the heart of the beautiful Overberg region. The town and surroundings offer the visitor a wide variety of attractions such as whale-watching, diving, including shark cage diving and bird watching. Simply laze on one of our many beaches, including the blue flag Grotto Beach. Between June and December, large numbers of southern right whales visit Walker Bay. Adults and calves can be sighted from the many viewing points along the Hermanus cliff paths, as well as a variety of birds. The Hermanus region features the richest floral diversity in Africa and is regarded as the heart of the fynbos, the smallest of the 6 floral kingdoms in the world. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve bordering the town includes over 1100 plant species in only 15 m², almost as many as all the plant species endemic to the United Kingdom. In the nearby hamlet of Betty`s Bay, boasting a sanctuary and breeding colony for African penguins, is the Harold Porter Botanical Garden, a sister garden to the world-famous Kirstenbosch Garden in Cape Town.
