Guy Fawkes ***

Standing in the shadow of York Minster, this ancient inn was the birthplace of the notorious plotter intent on blowing up the Houses of Parliament on 5 November 1605.

Today the inn is the finest in the city and one of the best-preserved in the country. With gas lighting, timber floors, roaring log fires, huge settles, ales served from barrels behind the bar and a grandfather clock ticking in the corner, this dark and mysterious inn is a treasure. It is also home to the world-famous Guy Fawkes Ghost Walk.

There are beautiful hotel bedrooms and the stunning Belfry Suite. Free parking is available in the centre of York; reserve your car parking permit when making your reservation.

The chefs prepare good, simple homemade Yorkshire food. Fresh, local and in-season ingredients are always used. The delicious selection of pies will tempt anyone.

Guy Fawkes Inn offers up to 8 real ales, including some of its own beers. Customers can vote on which ale the inn should keep and which they should remove! The wine list also includes some lovely fruit wines.

Some of York`s finest restaurants are owned by the inn, including Harvilles Restaurant. Staff at the inn will help with priority reservations at any of their restaurants and bars.
