Broadway Country House ***This sensitively restored Victorian hotel is set in 7 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, with stunning views over Carmarthen Bay and beyond to North Devon. This charming country retreat is situated on the outskirts of the historic town of Laugharne, famous for its castle and more recently, for Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who did much of his writing in the boathouse there. Broadway Country House is situated between Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. All the wonders of West Wales are on the doorstep, including Pembrokeshire National Park, local theme parks, picturesque beaches, rugged countryside and Pendine Sands, famous as the home of many attempts on the world land-speed record. Originally built 300 years ago, the hotel was extended in 1914, with a new West wing and the Orangery added. Today, the hotel offers 6 recently refurbished en suite rooms, the majority with sea views. Wireless internet access is available throughout. A full cooked English breakfast is included in all the room rates. In the evenings, the menu ranges from freshly caught fish from Pembroke to local Welsh Lamb. All of the dishes are home cooked and the comprehensive wine list offers a selection of wines to complement your meal. On Sundays, the hotel hosts a delicious home-cooked carvery, with a choice of 3 locally sourced meats and a wide selection of potatoes and vegetables. Sunday lunch is served from 12:30 to 14:30. A choice of other dishes and a children’s menu are also available. Evening meals are not available in January 2013. A lunchtime carvery is available on Sundays. By Air: The nearest airport to the hotel is Cardiff International Airport. The hotel is approximately 56 miles (90 km) from the airport. The journey from the airport to the hotel takes about 90 minutes by car. By Train: The hotel is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Carmarthen, which is the nearest railway station. By Ferry: The ferry port in Fishguard is about an hour away by car. By Car (from Carmarthen): - Take the A40 to St Clears. - Then take A4066 to Laugharne, which continues through Broadway. - The hotel is on the A4066, on the right-hand side. The hotel is just one mile (1.6 km) from Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived and wrote. Laugharne is believed to have been the inspiration for the fictional town of Llareggub in Under Milk Wood. Thomas lived and wrote in the boathouse set in the cliff, overlooking the glorious, heron-priested Taf Estuary. The town also has a historic castle and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. Pendine is 3 miles (5 km) away and has a beach that is almost 7 miles (11.25 km) in length. The seaside resort is best known for Pendine Sands, where Malcolm Campbell and J.G. Parry-Thomas set the world land-speed record 5 times between 1924 and 1927. Today, the beach is also dog friendly. The town of Tenby is a 20-minute drive from the hotel and the route takes you through Amroth, Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot. Tenby is a quiet seaside town that comes to life in the summer months.
